Function of Engine Assembly in Automobiles

An engine is a main component of the automobile, it is also said as heart of the vehicle. And being the heart of vehicle it needs to be taken care off, engine comprises of many electronic and mechanical components. A vehicle is said complete when it has a complete genuine engine assembly part. To improve the performance of the engine, it is very necessary that all the components of the engine parts are functioning properly. There are many components in the engine assembly, let us go through brief knowledge about it.

Cylinder Block/Engine Block: Cylinder block is a component of engine assembly which is located in between cylinder head and oil pad which provides support to the engine. There is a cooling passage around the cylinder which helps in flow of coolant.Cylinder block is covered with the head on the top which is sealed and bolted to hold firmly.

Camshaft: Camshaft is a shaft used to transform the rotational movement into linear motion. It regulates both the fuel input and exhaust fumes disposal with consisting of several radial cams which disperses intake or exhaust valves.

Timing Belt: The engine is incomplete without having an accurate timing belt. It helps in rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft enhancing the opening and closing of engine valve at the time of intake and exhaust strokes.

Piston: Piston transfers gas to the crankshaft from the cylinder through a piston rod. It also functions as a valve.

Spark plug: It is a part that produces electric current to the combustion chamber in the form of electric spark through ignition system. It consists of a key conductor, shell and an insulator.

Valves: Valves are made up of chromium iron alloy material used for the purpose of controlling the inlet and exhaust air into the engine. It has two points which is described as valve head on one side and valve stem on other point. Valve head is placed over the engine cylinder in-order to balance the high pressure.

Oil Sump: Oil Sump is a kind of oil container which performs additional function more than a container, it is placed on the bottom part of engine and performs cooling of heated oil.

Gasket: A gasket is a kind of sheet made up of different varieties like paper, fiber, copper which is held in between the engine head and block. Gasket helps in preventing leakage of oil or water leakage inside the engine cylinder.

Connecting Rod: It is kind of rod bolted between the crankshaft on one end and piston on the other. Connecting rod is used to transfer the motion from piston to crankshaft.

Engine performance may be hard if any of the above components are not working well, it is very essential to have periodic maintenance and inspection of these components.
